National and international network

The SBG is part of a larger movement.

At the national level, it is part of the Belgian Association of Psychotherapy (ABP) which brings together different schools of psychotherapy. The ABP is itself integrated into the Belgian Federation of Psychotherapists.

At the European level, the SBG is the Belgian representative of Gestalt therapy with the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT) alongside the NVAGT, its Dutch-speaking counterpart.

The SBG encourages its members to gain recognition at the European level through the validation of training and clinical practice criteria. Thus, the EAGT is involved in the process of issuing the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (CEP)

  1. If a candidate has completed their training at an institute whose curriculum has been validated by the EAGT (European Association for Gestalt-Therapy) and by the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP), the process of obtaining the CEP goes directly through the relevant institute and the EAP.
  2.  If a candidate has undergone training at an institute not accredited by the EAGT and the EAP, they submit their application to the ABP (Belgian Association of Psychotherapy) which, after validation, forwards it to the EAGT for approval.
